CRI measures how accurately colors look. CRI 80 is fine for warehouses. CRI 90+ is required for any space where people or products are on display. Always ask for a spectroradiometer report.

What CRI Actually Means
CRI (Color Rendering Index) scores how well a light source reveals true colors compared to sunlight. CRI 100 = perfect. CRI 80 = acceptable. CRI 90+ = accurate.
| CRI | Look | Best For | Price Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| CRI 70 | Washed out | Warehouses, closets | 0% |
| CRI 80 | Good enough | Offices, hallways | Baseline |
| CRI 90 | Accurate | Retail, hospitality | +20% |
| CRI 95 | Excellent | Art, jewelry, fashion | +50% |
How to Verify CRI (It Is Often Fake)
Budget strips list CRI 90 on the spec sheet but measure CRI 78 in our lab. The only way to verify is to ask for the spectroradiometer report with the actual Ra and R9 values.
R9 is the saturated red value. Many CRI 90 strips have R9 below 50, which means reds look dull. For retail and food display, ask for R9 > 80.
