COB (Chip-on-Board) strips mount hundreds of tiny chips densely to create a continuous, dot-free light line with high uniformity — ideal for linear lighting and neon-look effects. SMD strips use discrete chips (2835, 2216, 5050) and offer more color options (RGB, addressable), lower cost, and easier repair. Choose COB for seamless light, SMD for effects or budget projects.
It depends on chip size, density and voltage. Common figures: SMD 2835 at 60 LEDs/m draws about 4.8-9.6W/m; COB at 480 chips/m draws about 12-15W/m; high-density strips can reach 20W+/m. Rule of thumb: check the spec sheet, then size your power supply at 1.2-1.3× the total wattage.
Yes. Most strips have marked cut lines every 5-10cm. Cut only at the marked copper pads with scissors; the rest of the reel stays usable. For custom lengths, solder or use connectors at the cut line.
24V strips run at twice the voltage, so they can cover longer distances (up to ~10m) with less voltage drop and lower current, allowing thinner wiring. 12V is common in automotive and battery applications. For runs over 5m, 24V (or 48V) is recommended.
Most LED neon flex is IP65 (splash-proof, silicone-filled) or IP67 (temporarily submersible up to 1m for 30 min). Always check the spec: IP20 is indoor only. For outdoor signs choose IP67 with sealed end caps and waterproof connectors.
IP20: no water protection, indoor only. IP65: protected against low-pressure water jets and rain, suitable for outdoor use. IP67: protected against temporary immersion (1m, 30 min), suitable for wet areas and outdoor signs.
Match the voltage (12V/24V) and wattage (strip watts × 1.2-1.3). Connect positive to positive and negative to negative, insert a controller between the PSU and strip if you need dimming or effects, and verify with a multimeter before powering on.
That is voltage drop: current travelling along the copper trace loses voltage over distance. Solutions: use 24V or 48V strips, thicker wires, inject power every 5-10m, or run parallel connections from the power supply.
