What the Channel and Diffuser Do

An aluminum extrusion channel performs three jobs at once: it is a heat sink that conducts heat away from the strip PCB (directly affecting lifetime), a mounting and protection system that gives a clean linear fixture and shields the strip from dust, contact and damage, and a housing for the diffuser/cover that determines the visual result. The diffuser in turn controls whether individual LEDs are visible (the ‘dot effect’), how much light transmits, how glare is managed and the beam shape.
